The Road Less Taken

Sam Wiley founder of the UFO Radio News Network has just written a UFO Digest Movie Review of the new movie The Road where he gave it a rating of 9/10. (www.ufodigest.com/news/0110/theroad.php).
While I have not seen the movie and probably won’t and have not read Cormac McCarthy 2007 Pulitzer winning novel on which the movie is based, I do have some general cultural observations, if I may. I am now writing a weekly column for a Christian newsletter as well as a monthly column for another but my start was at UFO Digest and I still read all articles and think fondly of Dirk Vander Ploeg and Robert Morningstar.
With all due respect to author Sam Wiley, his review was very well written even if I did not agree with his admiration of the film.
He quoted the author McCarthy, “By day the banished sun circles the earth like a grieving mother with a lamp.” What does that poetic nonsense endeavor mean?
Frankly, our cultural is being bombarded by a plethora of such post apocalyptic movies from 2012 to Legion to Avatar that are just plain depressing. In these films, life is often bleak and meaningless and grey with no right or wrong, good or evil. People like Sam look at the earthquake in Haiti and see evidence of this randomness of life and that nothing is eternal. Wiley was blown away by this “bleak godless world” in The Road where suicide and cannibalism were viable options. Wiley also used this opportunity to pitch global warming and say that “humanity was slowly dying along with the planet.”
