The Hollow Earth

That area beyond the Pole is the Center of the Great Unknown - statement by the greatest explorer in modern times, Rear Admiral Richard E. Byrd of the United States Navy, cannot be understood nor make any sense according to old geographical theories that the earth is a solid sphere with a fiery core, on which both North and South Poles are fixed points. If such was the case, and if Admiral Byrd flew for 1,700 and 2,300 miles respectively across North and South Poles, to the icy and snowbound lands that lie on the other side, whose geography is fairly well known, it would be incomprehensible for him to make such a statement, referring to this territory on the other side of the Poles as 'the great unknown' Read more…

My First Experience On
A 24-Hour Retreat

Queen's House is a gathering place and oasis in an ever changing world. We are nestled in a quiet corner of Saskatoon on the bank of the South Saskatchewan River.

Going for a 24 hour retreat was something I wanted to do for several months. I wanted to get away from the daily busyness that my life was too involved with. For a short time I wanted to reconnect with my Higher Power and myself. I made an appointment with one of the sisters the Queens House of Retreats in Saskatoon. On that day the sister gave me tour of the building and I was quite impressed with the layout and feel of it. It was arranged that I start my retreat on the next Saturday morning.

To start the day I wanted to be mindful of living in the moment. I thought of what I missed in life by rushing from one activity to another. I took a 15 minute shower and let myself experience the clammy feel roll off my body then felt myself become part of the small and cozy room I was in.

For the rest of the day I had some game plan but pretty well left things open to expect the unexpected. Most of it was spent looking at ways to clear out the dead wood in my life, whether it be old habits or ways of doing things that have outlived its usefullness. One thing that came to mind was not to lower my standards but to loosen my grip on them. It's amazing how much fretting and worrying is lost when this happens.

Even how I approached my meditation practice changed. First I was in a safe place where I could completely relax knowing I would not be disturbed. It gives a person a chance to be filled with positive energy.

I felt saddened as my time at the retreat house wound down. It had helped in putting things into perspective for me. I actually felt cleansed as I headed out into a crisp 20 below Saskatoon day.
