The Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco

The symbol of American freedom and economic success, the Golden gate bridge in San Francisco, is to have a plastic coated safety net.

Hung 6 meters below the roadway and be 6 meters wide ( 18 feet approx ) to save jumpers from an awful death.

Since the bridge opened in 1937 more than 1300 people have jumped into the murky waters, and possibly more were never found, as people travel across the world to jump from the bridges height which is 67 meters ( 220 feet ) high.

Last year 38 people and this year 19 people have died.

Counseling agencies and mental health experts have demanded safety nets since the documentary film, “the Bridge” was named as a big factor in the suicides, and are fearful of this years Halloween festival, which has been featured on several suicide websites.

Experts have warned the present economic collapse, may push more people to the edge, and have asked for the safety nets for some time, funding is likely to be in the region of 50 million dollars and 5 years from completion.

One jumper who survived, bi-polar sufferer Kevin Hines, was on the bridge crying and trying to pluck up courage before the jump, and said motor vehicles sped past for 40 minutes and no one stopped to help.

Recent studies by a well known Spiritualist group have highlighted the number of dead jumpers appearing at sйances, all asking for a safer bridge.
