Paul Verhoeven, the 69 year old Dutch, Catholic, celebrated Director of such films as Total Recall, Robocop, and Basic Instinct, who also has a Doctorate in Mathematics and Physics, has a new book coming out this fall (and probably a movie at some time in the future by the same name) entitled Jesus of Nazareth: A Realistic Portrayal. This book ups the ante on blasphemy begun by books like Holy Blood and Holy Grail and The DaVinci Code where Christian doctrine in general was challenged, by alleging that Jesus was the bastard son of the rape of Mary by a Roman soldier named Panthera as opposed to Scripture’s statement of His virgin birth to Mary who was with child by the Holy Spirit (Matthew 1:18, 23). This heresy, while not new, once again attempts to diminish Jesus and His role as God incarnate and His death, burial and resurrection as the atoning sacrifice for mankind’s sins. It, like arguments against the death and resurrection of Christ and instead the marriage of Jesus to Mary Magdalene who supposedly subsequently had a child, undermine the Christian faith. As the Apostle Paul wrote, “If Christ was not raised [from the dead], than our faith is worthless and we are still in our sins (1Corinthians 15:17).
Explanations advanced concerning the existence of so called extraterrestrials that are supposedly smarter and more evolved than us and who as the potential saviors of mankind arrive here on UFOs, also serve to cause people to question their faith and thus possibly rob them of redemption from their sins and the hope of eternal life. The messages received from UFOs are generally occultic and steer people away from belief in Christian doctrine. So called extraterrestrials tend to undermine or attack the Christian faith. This is why I believe that such so called extraterrestrials are rather fallen angels, i.e. demonic entities who oppose God and Christianity. This is what I have been writing out in the past 40 articles for UFO Digest. Deception is rampant and the stakes for such errors are eternal torment. Jesus Himself said that in these end of days “even the elect will be deceived” (Matthew 24:24). I keep beating that same old dead horse because I know that God is patient and desires for “no man to perish but for all to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).
This heretical idea that Jesus was the bastard son of a rape of Mary by a Roman soldier is unfortunately not new nor was it started by Verhoeven. It can be traced back to the Church historian Origen who first mentioned it in the Third Century AD but it was later expunged by the Vatican. It was also alluded to in the Koran, Sura 19:16-22, where a full grown man forces himself on Mary and she goes into hiding. My point for even bringing up this foolishness is not only to point out how it will mislead people today but also how it affected the Jews in the past and most notably my own mother and her feelings about Jesus Christ.
Two thousand years ago, the majority of Jews rejected Christ as the Mashiach (Messiah) for a variety of reasons including the fact that He did not set up His Kingdom and throw out the Romans. Later, they began to say that He never even existed at all. They point out that He is not mentioned in any contemporary Jewish writings of the time only in the fables of New Testament writers. Let me begin by demonstrating that this is false. Not only is Jesus mentioned in the writings of the 1st Century Jewish Historian Josephus, but His life and death are also discussed in the rabbinical writings of the Talmud centuries later.
