Snow has fallen over several Rocky Mountain States today, specifically across parts of Utah, Colorado and Wyoming. Up to a foot and a half of new powder had coated some Wasatch Mountain locations as of this morning, while as much as 1-2 feet of wind-blown snow had sifted down over portions of southern Wyoming. This snow is expected to taper off tonight. Attention will now turn to a developing upper low over the Southwest. As the upper low slowly progresses east early this week, precipitation will become more widespread Monday night through Tuesday over northern Arizona, New Mexico, southern Utah and southern Colorado. Winter storm watches are posted over much of New Mexico and extend eastward into the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles for late Monday night through early Wednesday morning. Significant snows are on the way to portions of New Mexico and southern Colorado with some high terrain areas picking up more than a foot. Gusty winds will also develop over New Mexico Monday night into Tuesday with gusts up to 50 mph in Albuquerque and up to 65 mph below Canyons. Meanwhile, freezing rain may become an issue over the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles by early Tuesday as warm, moist air flows over cold air at the surface.
