Astronaut Edgar Mitchell Claims Alien Cover-up

Dr. Edgar Mitchell is a veteran of the Apollo 14 mission and he was the sixth man to walk on the Moon. Dr. Mitchell also insists that aliens have visited Earth and that governments are actively covering it up. "I happen to have been privileged enough to be in on the fact that we've been visited on this planet and the UFO phenomena is real," Dr Mitchell said. "It's been well covered up by all our governments for the last 60 years or so, but slowly it's leaked out and some of us have been privileged to have been briefed on some of it. "I've been in military and intelligence circles, who know that beneath the surface of what has been public knowledge, yes - we have been visited. Reading the papers recently, it's been happening quite a bit." Dr Mitchell, who has a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautical engineering and a Doctor of Science degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics claimed Roswell was real and similar alien visits continue to be investigated. He told the astonished Kerrang! radio host Nick Margerrison: "This is really starting to open up. I think we're headed for real disclosure and some serious organisations are moving in that direction." NASA issued a quick denial. In a statement, a spokesman said: "NASA does not track UFOs. NASA is not involved in any sort of cover up about alien life on this planet or anywhere in the universe. "Dr Mitchell is a great American, but we do not share his opinions on this issue." If Dr. Mitchell is correct about a cover-up than this is exactly the type of denial one would expect NASA to make. Record-Breaking Warmth Set for South Monday (weather.com)

18.12.2006 05:36 Science - Source: Yahoo Science

South

In much of the South, temperatures will be approaching record levels again today. The morning will start off foggy, especially near the Gulf Coast, where dense fog advisories are posted. Temperatures are expected to warm well into the 70s, with 80s possible across portions of Florida and South Texas. The exception to the warmth will be across portions of the Texas Panhandle and western Oklahoma (including the Oklahoma Panhandle) where clouds will be on the increase and the chance of rain or a rain/snow mix is possible tonight into Tuesday. This system will make its way eastward over the next several days and bring a chance of rain all across Texas and Oklahoma on Tuesday, the Lower Mississippi River Valley on Wednesday and Thursday, and much of the South east of the Mississippi River on Friday. On the East Coast of Florida, a persistent on-shore wind will bring an increase in the threat of rip currents today from Flagler Beach south to Key Largo (including Palm Beach, Miami Beach, Vero Beach, and Daytona Beach). All across the region, temperatures are expected to come closer to seasonal averages#especially in Georgia, the Carolinas, and Florida#by Wednesday before rebounding slightly by the end of the week.

Midwest

In the Midwest, a bit of a reality check is on tap in the temperature department as temperatures will cool back closer to seasonal averages during the early part of the work week as a cold front moves across the region. Even so, Monday should be a mild day across the Ohio River Valley with highs around 60 in Louisville and Cincinnati ahead of the front. Behind the front, temperatures will be closer to seasonal averages in St. Louis and Chicago (in the 40s), but slightly above average across most of the Midwest. Light rain is possible from the Ozarks in southern Missouri through the Ohio River Valley today. The next chance of precipitation starts to make its way into the region on Tuesday with a storm system currently over the Southwest moving into the Great Plains on Tuesday bringing rain to Kansas (rain/snow mix possible in western Kansas), rain showers possible across the Mid-Mississippi River Valley and snow in the Upper Midwest/Northern Plains on Wednesday and Thursday with rain spreading into the Great Lakes by Thursday and Friday.

Northeast

In the Northeast, a temperature reality check is also in store for the next few days. Today will be mild for mid-December across the region, but by tomorrow temperatures will cool back to near seasonal averages for afternoon highs. Temperatures should remain seasonably cool for Wednesday, but moderate once again into Thursday and Friday. Snow will be possible on Tuesday near the Great Lakes in Western and Northern New York and Western Pennsylvania, with another chance of rain moving into the region towards Friday and Saturday.

West

In the West, it could be a messy end to the day across the Southwest. In addition, winds should start to kick up from New Mexico through Arizona to Southern California as the day progresses. This is due to a developing surface low pressure center that will bring snow to the Rockies in the Four Corners area this afternoon and tonight. A winter storm watch has been posted for much of New Mexico into southwestern Colorado for tonight through Wednesday morning. The low responsible for this chance of rain/snow/wind will pull into the Great Plains on Tuesday and Wednesday, bringing a chance of snow to the Front Range of the Rockies on Wednesday. In the Northwest, it should remain dry (with the exception of the area around Puget Sound) until Wednesday afternoon when another storm system comes into the Pacific Northwest and brings another chance of valley rain/mountain snow to the Northwest. Snow will be possible across the Intermountain West and Rockies by Friday. Temperatures are expected to remain below seasonal averages throughout the rest of the week ahead.
